Samsung to pay another $290 million to Apple for infringing on its patents

It seems the legal skirmish between Apple and Samsung is far from over. The jury has spoken and asked Samsung to pay a total of $290 Million in damages for infringing on Apple's patents. In August of last year another jury found Samsung guilty and ordered the Korean giant to pay $1.049 Billion to Apple in damages, but later judge Lucy Koh after going through the case decided that the jury has incorrectly calculated the damages and brought the sum down to $599 Million. So, after this second jury the amount goes to a total of $890 million that Samsung now has to pay to Apple.

While Samsung will definitely be appealing against the decision and would ask for a reduction in the said damages, Apple will do the opposite and ask for more. The legal tussle will continue and a great many appeals are coming. Here is the official statement, after the verdict, from both parties:

From Apple:

For Apple, this case has always been about more than patents and money. It has been about innovation and the hard work that goes into inventing products that people love. While it's impossible to put a price tag on those values, we are grateful to the jury for showing Samsung that copying has a cost.

From Samsung, after loosing another appeal:

We are disappointed by today's decision, which is based in large part on a patent that the US Patent and Trademark Office has recently deemed invalid. While we move forward with our post-trial motions and appeals, we will continue to innovate with groundbreaking technologies and great products that are loved by our many customers all around the world.
