Samsung Galaxy Tab Iris launched in India to carry the torch for paperless authentication
Samsung India today launched the Galaxy Tab Iris with Iris authentication technology to allow paperless authentication using your Aadhaar card number.
The Galaxy Tab Iris is certified by STQC and is targeted towards enterprise application, banks, educational institutions and banks. The Galaxy Tab Iris has an Iris scanner built-in at its back which makes use of the Aadhaar biometric data to authenticate your identity without any paperwork, but you do need to remember you Aadhaar card number as a two-step verification.
Coming to specs, the Galaxy Tab Iris is an entry-level tablet which is not being aimed at the consumer market. Its primary objective is Aadhaar based authentication and providing developers with open APIs to interact with the system and integrate it with their own apps. To that end, you have a 7-inch (1024x600 Pixels) display and it runs on a quad-core processor, Android 5.0 Lollipop with Samsung KNOX suite of apps/services for security.
There's 1.5GB RAM on offer, 8GB internal storage which is expandable upto 200GB and USB OTG support as well. You also have a 5MP AF rear camera in addition to the dual-eye Iris camera sensor. There is support for 3G built-in to make it a completely standalone device without the need for any addons for biometric authentication.
The Galaxy Tab Iris has been priced at Rs. 13,499 and will be available through the company's enterprise channel.
