Is LG planning to make a Windows Phone 8 device?
LG may have decided to foray into the Windows Phone 8 segment if a report is to be believed. Kwon Soon, LG's managing director in India said that they are working on a Windows Phone 8 powered device back in South Korea, while he reiterated that their major focus will still be on Android. He added to this statement that LG understands that Android has become a global platform with unprecedented reach, but Windows Phone too is picking up due to Microsoft's efforts.
While we are still waiting for the LG G2 which will be unveiled on August 7th, Korea will get to see the new LG flagship later this month. If you have seen the leaked images of the LG G2 it has volume buttons at the back of the device below the camera unit. It would be cool to see something different in a smartphone, with functionality of the hardware buttons rather than just their placement.
If we talk of Windows Phone, Nokia is the only major player in the segment, while Samsung and HTC do have have a couple of devices in the line-up. Windows Phone is slowing creeping up a following, starting with 1.9 percent of global smartphone marketshare in 2012, to about 2.9 percent share in 2013, according to Gartner. Nothing earth-shattering but Microsoft and Nokia are both adamant at making the platform a success, which may find success if developers too embrace the platform.
