Xiaomi 17 Ultra launched with 6.9-inch 120Hz LTPO AMOLED display, Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 SoC, Leica triple rear cameras

Xiaomi has officially launched its latest premium smartphone in the 17 series, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra, along with a dedicated Leica Edition, at a launch event in China. The unveiling also marked a major evolution in Xiaomi’s collaboration with Leica. The companies announced a shift from their earlier “Joint R&D” approach to a new “Strategic Co-creation Model.”

This upgraded partnership emphasizes deep involvement from the earliest stages of product development, combining Leica’s century-long optical expertise and design philosophy to redefine mobile photography. The Xiaomi 17 Ultra is the first device to emerge from this enhanced collaboration.

Design and Display -

The Xiaomi 17 Ultra represents a notable change in design, becoming the first Ultra-series model to feature a flat display. While retaining the overall visual identity of the 17 Series, it adopts a cleaner, more linear aesthetic with ultra-slim bezels. Measuring just 8.29mm thick, it is the slimmest Ultra smartphone Xiaomi has released to date.

User comfort has been improved through a micro-curved aluminum alloy frame, a smaller camera deco, and a repositioned camera module that enhances balance during use. The device is offered in four color options: White, Black, Purple, and Green.

Xiaomi also debuted updated accessories, including two redesigned magnetic photography kits with improved ergonomics, as well as an ultra-thin composite fiber case engineered to maintain a nearly “case-free” feel.

The smartphone features a 6.9-inch M10 OLED LTPO display with a peak brightness of 3,500 nits and a dynamic 1–120Hz refresh rate. It supports HDR10+ and Dolby Vision, while Xiaomi’s new HyperRGB technology delivers 2K-level clarity with power efficiency surpassing that of typical 1.5K panels.

Available in Black, White, Cool Smoke Purple, and Starry Green—featuring a distinctive mineral-grain finish—the Xiaomi 17 Ultra also includes upgraded dual stereo speakers with AI-based noise reduction for clearer calls and richer media playback. The device carries IP66, IP68, and IP69 certifications, offering comprehensive protection against dust and water.

Imaging System -

The Xiaomi 17 Ultra is equipped with a versatile triple-camera system designed to handle everything from landscapes to street photography. The setup includes a 14mm ultra-wide camera, a 23mm Leica 1-inch ultra-dynamic main camera, and a Leica 200MP telephoto camera offering 75–100mm optical zoom.

• Leica 1-inch Ultra-Dynamic Camera - Powered by the Light Fusion 1050L sensor with LOFIC HDR technology, this camera delivers a full-well capacity 6.3 times greater than its predecessor, significantly enhancing highlight retention and shadow detail in challenging lighting conditions.
• Leica 200MP Optical Zoom Telephoto - Designed to overcome traditional mid-to-long-range zoom limitations, this module uses three precisely aligned lens groups and a prism. Independent movement of the second and third lens groups enables true optical zoom across the 75–100mm range, while utilizing the full 1/1.4-inch sensor to maintain native 200MP quality without digital cropping.
• Leica APO Certification - Featuring an advanced APO optical design with three custom glass lenses, the telephoto camera minimizes chromatic aberration at the hardware level, eliminating color fringing and delivering superior sharpness. This makes the Xiaomi 17 Ultra the first Xiaomi flagship to earn Leica APO certification.

The entire imaging system employs Leica UltraPure optics with a G+P lens configuration to reduce ghosting and ensure stability in complex lighting environments.

Performance and Connectivity -

Powering the Xiaomi 17 Ultra is the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 Mobile Platform, paired with Xiaomi’s 3D Dual-Channel IceLoop cooling system and a redesigned capillary structure. This results in a 50% improvement in thermal conductivity over the previous generation.

Connectivity is handled by an advanced antenna system supported by five signal-enhancement chips, enabling compatibility with 51 4G and 5G frequency bands, along with Ultra-Wideband (UWB) technology. The device packs a 6,800mAh battery with support for 90W wired charging, 50W wireless charging, and 90W PPS fast charging.

Xiaomi also announced new cross-platform features that enhance integration with Apple’s ecosystem. Users can mirror and control their Xiaomi smartphone from an iPhone—performing tasks such as QR scanning or food ordering—and can also mirror and control Apple devices, including iPhones, iPads, and Macs, directly from the Xiaomi handset. Two-way mirroring between Xiaomi devices is supported as well.

Xiaomi 17 Ultra Leica Edition -

Alongside the standard variant, Xiaomi has introduced the Xiaomi 17 Ultra Leica Edition. This special model is a direct product of the new “Strategic Co-creation Model,” developed with close involvement from Leica’s original engineering team and drawing inspiration from the iconic Leica M-series cameras.

Exclusive Design -

The Leica Edition features a distinctive dual-tone body combining textured leather with a matte finish, complemented by a knurled middle frame engraved with “LEICA CAMERA GERMANY.” It is also the first smartphone to carry Leica’s iconic red dot badge.

Master Zoom Ring -

A dedicated physical zoom ring equipped with 20 high-strength ball bearings and an internal optical displacement sensor offering 0.03mm precision enables smooth and highly intuitive focus control. The ring is fully sealed, preserving the phone’s IP66, IP68, and IP69 water and dust resistance ratings.

Leica Essential Mode -

This exclusive shooting mode is designed to replicate the visual character of Leica’s legendary cameras.

• Leica M9 Style - Employs a “RAW-to-RGB” imaging model trained on hundreds of thousands of Leica M9 photographs to reproduce its distinctive color science.
• Leica M3 Style - Digitally recreates the grain structure and tonal response of Leica MONOPAN 50 film for authentic black-and-white photography.

Security and Satellite Communication - 

The device debuts CAI Photo Authenticity Protection, which uses a dedicated security chip to digitally sign images and verify their authenticity. It also supports dual-satellite communication via Tiantong and Beidou, enabling connectivity in remote or off-grid environments.
