Google Smart Speaker with Gemini AI Surfaced Online; Features, Colors, and Smart Home Integration
At its event yesterday, where Google introduced the Pixel 10 series, Pixel Watch 4, and Pixel Buds 2a, the company also teased an unreleased smart home speaker in one of its presentation slides. Now, a fresh leak sheds more light on the device.
Design and Colors -
The speaker is confirmed to be real, currently in development, and set for release in the future. It will run on Gemini AI and will be available in bright red, light green (likely “Jade”), black (“Obsidian”), and white (“Porcelain”), following Google’s familiar color naming scheme.
Features -
The smart speaker features a glowing light ring at the bottom, which activates when interacting with Gemini. Users will experience the Gemini Live feature, albeit with limited voice-only interactions—unlike on phones, where the camera can also be used.
It will debut with more natural-sounding AI assistant voices and support media search, music playback, and automation setup. Additionally, the device will be able to detect unusual sounds such as glass breaking or smoke alarms and send alerts directly to your phone.
Smart Home & Connectivity -
Google is also adding functionality to pair one or multiple speakers with a Google TV Streamer, allowing TV audio to be spread across multiple rooms. The device will support the Matter IoT standard, ensuring compatibility with a wide range of smart home devices.
Availability -
While the exact launch date remains unclear, the new smart home speaker appears poised to become a significant addition to Google’s AI-powered ecosystem.
