Cyanogen OS not an exclusive to YU in India anymore, Lenovo Z1 gets the go ahead
YU Televentures had been offering Cyanogen OS on its smartphones exclusively in India since November 2014, but Lenovo set to bring the ZUK Z1 to India running on Cyanogen OS 12.1, the agreement between Cyanogen and YU Televentures seems to be not valid anymore.
Lenovo is set to launch the ZUK Z1 in India soon as the Lenovo Z1 with a 5.5-inch 1080p display, Snapdragon 801 and fingerprint sensor. The company is bringing the 64GB storage variant to India which will be priced aggressively.
Coming back to Micromax's online sub-brand YU, the company had an exclusive contract with Cyanogen in India which resulted in a very public spat between OnePlus and Cyanogen. But it seems that agreement is now void with the launch of the Lenovo Z1 running a Cyanogen build.
Speaking to Gadgets 360, Anuj Sharma, Lenovo's head of product Marketing said:
It [the deal] was there before that's what I was told by Cyanogen team. But the team now said its ok now. So we are going ahead with the launch.
So, we now have a green-light for the Lenovo Z1 launch in India and if priced under Rs. 20,000, it would be worth checking out.
