Asus Zenfone 2 ZE551ML and ZE550ML get Android Marshmallow Update
Asus has started rolling out Android Marshmallow update for the Zenfone 2 series. The update weighs in at 1.1GB and should be downloaded over WiFi.
The Zenfone 2 ZE551ML gets updated to V4.21.40.61 and the Zenfone 2 ZE550ML variant to V4.21.40.54. One thing to remember again before updating to Android Marshmallow on the Zenfone 2 is to move all the apps back to internal storage. If you have apps on the external storage, after the update they won't be accessible.
Asus has also removed a lot of bloatware from the devices, including Omlet Chat, Dr Safety, Zinio, Tripadvisor, Puffin Browser to count a few. The default Asus Email, Calendar apps have also given way to Google alternatives.
The update is being pushed out as we write this, and should be available everywhere within a week. Now, just to remind you, the Zenfone 2 were the last smartphones from Asus which ran on Intel's Atom processors and probably that's the reason it took so long for them to be updated.
