Xiaomi Mi 5 is coming soon to India

Yesterday, Xiaomi launched the Mi 5 at Mobile World Congress, here in Barcelona and said that its coming to India soon. The company also announced its pricing and availability for China. You can read more about it here.

But one more thing that was announced by Hugo Barra on stage was that the Xiaomi Mi 5 will be coming to India next followed by launch in several other key markets for Xiaomi.

Even on an international stage, Xiaomi didn't announce any plans to expand out of its core markets. There was a lot of anticipation surrounding the global launch of the Mi 5 at MWC 16, where we believed that the, almost 6-year old, company would expand to western markets, but it seems that will take some time.

Just to recap on the specs, the Xiaomi Mi 5 runs on the Snapdragon 820 quad-core processor with 3GB RAM and a choice of 32GB/64GB storage. There is a Mi 5 Pro variant as well which gets 4GB RAM and 128GB of non-expandable storage and a ceramic back-cover. All these variants come with a 5.15-inch 1080p IPS display, 16MP rear and 4MP UltraPixel front-facing cameras running Android 6.0 Marshmallow right out of the box.

As far as pricing is concerned, we only have the Chinese prices for the Mi 5 variants which also include around 17% tax:

  • Xiaomi Mi 5
    • 3GB RAM, 32GB Storage: 1999 Yuan, about Rs. 21000 or US $305
    • 3GB RAM, 64GB Storage: 2299 Yuan, about Rs. 24,000 or US $350
  • Xiaomi Mi 5 Pro
    • 4GB RAM, 128GB Storage: 2699 Yuan, about Rs. 28000 or US $410

The few takeaways from the launch of the Mi 5 are that it has great specs, superior build, is cheap and coming to India just after its launch in China. For more on the Xiaomi Mi5 and other cool launches from MWC, keep it tuned to PhoneBunch.
