Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge launched in India with some great offers
Samsung today launched its flagship Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge in India starting at Rs. 48,900. The Indian variants of the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge run on the Exynos 8890 octa-core processor with 4GB RAM and same screen sizes. The SoC and the support for Indian LTE bands seem to be the only difference between Snapdragon 820 and Exynos variants.
Let's talk about the basics again, both the Galaxy S7 variants now come with a hybrid microSD card slot to expand storage and are also IP68 rated for dust and water resistance. But there's a difference this time around. You now have two different screen sizes here. The Galaxy S7 has a 5.1-inch Super AMOLED display while the Galaxy S7 Edge has a 5.5-inch Quad-HD panel. Both are among the sharpest displays you can find on any smartphone today.
Samsung has toned down TouchWiz a bit more with its Marshmallow build on the Galaxy S7 but you still get the dual-window, themes and other customization options. The greatest change from the Galaxy S6 is the new camera. Samsung is now using a 12MP rear camera with dual-pixel auto-focus with near complete sensor coverage, what it means is that focusing would be extremely fast no matter where the subject is in your frame. Then there's the super-wide f/1.7 aperture lens here which is by far the brightest lens on a smartphone camera, meaning great looking shots even in low-light conditions and indoors, atleast that's what the specs say. We will be taking an in-depth look at the camera in our full-review.
Then there's 4K recording on-board as well with smart optical image stabilization and for all you selfie lovers, you have a 5MP front-camera with the same wide f/1.7 aperture for better images even in low-light. The smaller Galaxy S7 also gets a smallish 3000 mAh battery while the larger S7 Edge has a far bigger 3600 mAh battery. Moreover, both also come with fast charging but not Quick Charge 3.0. Nevertheless, Samsung's own proprietary fast charging tech is quite fast and coupled with fast wireless charging, you have all bases covered.
Now, there is improvement on the dual-curved Galaxy S7 Edge as well with more options for the edge display. You can now see a news stream as well as launch apps through the edge screen.
