Google's Project Jarvis could preview this December: Upcoming AI System to Automate Web Tasks with Gemini 2.0
Google is reportedly working on an AI system called “Project Jarvis,” designed to help users by taking control of web browsers to complete a range of tasks.
According to The Information, Project Jarvis can perform actions like conducting research, making purchases, and booking flights. Sources close to the project indicate that Google may preview this concept as early as December.
Features of Project Jarvis -
At the I/O 2024 event in May, Google presented examples of how agent-based features would work with its Gemini AI. The company is expected to reveal more about the agent's capabilities, driven by Gemini 2.0, in December. Named after the AI from Iron Man, Project Jarvis is intended for everyday users rather than enterprises, focusing on automating common online tasks.
Running within Google Chrome, the system automates actions by frequently taking screenshots of the user’s screen, interpreting them to execute tasks like clicking buttons or typing text. Currently, Jarvis operates slowly, taking several seconds per action, suggesting that it relies on cloud processing rather than local device capabilities.
Future Developments -
Jarvis is expected to be powered by an upgraded version of Google’s Gemini AI. While a preview may come in December, a full launch may take longer as Google plans early testing to resolve bugs. Google’s approach aligns with a growing trend among major tech companies, including Microsoft and Apple, which are also exploring technologies to improve web interactions through AI.
The timeline for Jarvis's release may shift, as Google is assessing its readiness for limited user testing to fine-tune the system before a broader rollout.
