Apple iPhone Roadmap Reveals Up to 7 Models by Fall 2027, Including Foldable and 20th Anniversary Edition

Apple is reportedly working on an expanded iPhone roadmap, with at least eight new models planned between 2026 and 2027, according to The Information. The upcoming lineup is said to include Apple’s first foldable iPhone, a special 20th-anniversary model, refreshed Pro devices, updated budget options, and notable shifts in launch schedules and manufacturing locations.

Sources familiar with Apple’s plans suggest the company could be selling as many as seven iPhone models by fall 2027, up from the five models it currently offers.

Background -

The iPhone remains Apple’s most important product, accounting for nearly half of the company’s total revenue. While growth slowed in recent years as users held onto devices longer, Apple’s most recent fiscal year—ending September 27—saw iPhone revenue rise 4% year over year to more than $209 billion, partly driven by the iPhone 17 series, which delivered more visible design updates than its predecessor.

Upcoming iPhone models (2026–2027) -

Apple is planning updates across its budget, base, Pro, Air, and foldable categories.

  • iPhone 17e - Expected in Spring 2026, this budget-focused model will reportedly feature a glass back, magnetic wireless charging, and Apple’s in-house C1X modem.
  • iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max - Slated for Fall 2026, these models are said to introduce under-display Face ID using OTI Lumionics materials, a repositioned selfie camera, a mechanical aperture on at least one rear camera, and an upgraded low-light sensor. Apple is also expected to adopt advanced TSMC chip packaging to boost AI performance.
  • iPhone Fold - Apple’s first foldable iPhone is tipped for a Fall 2026 debut. It is expected to feature a tablet-like landscape design, a ~5.3-inch outer display, and a ~7.7-inch inner display. Early trial production is reportedly underway at Foxconn in China, though display yield challenges remain.
  • iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e - These base and budget models are planned for Spring 2027. Production is expected to begin in India, marking a continued shift away from China.
  • iPhone Air 2 - After weak sales of the first-generation model, Apple reportedly paused trial production. A redesign—adding a second rear camera and lowering the price—is expected, with production possibly restarting in early 2027.
  • iPhone 20 - Planned for Fall 2027 to mark the iPhone’s 20th anniversary, this model is expected to feature curved glass on all sides, a fully edge-to-edge display with no cutouts, a narrow metal band for buttons, and an under-display selfie camera.

Outlook -

Apple expects solid near-term performance driven by current iPhone sales, excluding the iPhone Air. Despite increasing challenges in artificial intelligence, spatial computing, and intensifying global competition, the iPhone continues to anchor Apple’s business.

The broader and more diversified iPhone lineup planned for 2026 and 2027 appears aimed at sustaining growth while Apple navigates longer-term strategic and market pressures.
