Xiaomi announces MIUI 7 in China, with new themes, facial recognition in gallery
Xiaomi today unveiled MIUI 7 in China which is now based on Android 5.0 Lollipop. Apart from interface design changes, there are several new gender specific themes, facial recognition support for photos in your gallery and a lot more.
Facial Recognition in Gallery, Photo Sharing, Kids Mode
The first interesting feature of MIUI 7 is that it will be able to recognize faces in your photos and separate them in a People tab, so that you can quickly search for photos. There is a separate section for pets as well in the Photos app.
There's a new Baby Photos app as well, which makes photos shareable between selected family member. There's a new Kids Mode built-in as well, so you can give your Xiaomi smartphone to your Kids all the while your data/apps remain protected and you can choose which apps/services they have access to.
Themes
There are four separate official themes available for MIUI 7, including a Goddess mode for women in pink colors which adds the ability of switching themes, combined with wallpapers and screensavers at the same time.
You can now also set videos as contact ringtones, so if a person calls the video will start playing instead of a ringtone.
Mi Roaming App
Now many of these features are China specific, probably including the Xiaomi MI Roaming app as well. This is like a virtual SIM card for your device when you travel abroad. You can request a data package from Xiaomi and therefore instead of switching SIM cards you can simply use the data pack from Xiaomi.
Now this was the MIUI 7 China ROM, the global MIUI 7 ROM will be launched in India on August 19th. We'll be there to catch all the action live.
