Xiaomi Mi Pad MIUI 8 (Official) update now available - Here's how to install (Tutorial)
Xiaomi is giving the original Mi Pad a new lease of life with MIUI 8 update which is now available. The 7.9-inch tablet was launched last year for Rs. 12,999 and for its specs, it was great value for money. At that time it ran on Android 4.4 KitKat, and it still runs on KitKat.
But there are a lot of new features coming with MIUI 8 to the OG Mi Pad. To start with you need to charge the Mi Pad to more than 50% and then download the MIUI 8 Chinese Stable ROM. Yes, there's no global MIUI 8 Stable ROM for the Mi Pad as yet, but given that earlier development had stopped on the tablet, I am not going to complain much. Anyways, once you have downloaded the file, let's install the new update.
Steps to Install MIUI 8 on Xiaomi Mi Pad 1
Method 1
- Download MIUI 8 China Stable ROM V8.1.2.0.KXFCNDI for Mi Pad 1 - Download
- Open the Updater App from Tool Folder
- Tap on the Overflow menu button
- Tap on Choose update package and locate the file downloaded in Step 1.
- Proceed with the update, wait as this will take some time.
- Reboot your phone.
- That's it.
Method 2
- Download MIUI 8 China Stable ROM V8.1.2.0.KXFCNDI for Mi Pad 1 - Download
- Rename the downloaded file to "update.zip". Connect your Mi Pad to your PC and transfer the file to the root of your tablet's internal storage.
- Backup your data, as the Mi Pad may be formatted.
- Open the Updater App from Tools Folder.
- Tap on the Overflow menu button (three dots)
- Tap on "Reboot to Recovery mode", alternatively you can power off your tablet and then press power + Volume Up key simultaneously.
- Once in Recovery, navigate using the volume rocker and select using power key
- Choose language, move down to English using the Volume down key, select using Power.
- Then navigate to "Install update.zip to System One" and Press Power
- Select Yes and press power key to begin installation
- Once done, press back and Select Wipe & Reset
- Then select Wipe Cache, press power key.
- Choose Yes, once done Reboot your device.
- All done!
Sadly, the Android version on Mi Pad even after MIUI 8 is still stuck at Android 4.4 KitKat, with no Lollipop or Marshmallow in sight.
