Samsung Pay launched in India, making your phone the new wallet
For the last few weeks Samsung had been taking registrations for the Samsung Pay service in India, now it has been unveiled for the public at an event in New Delhi. The company has partnered with Visa, MasterCard and American Express to provide payment gateway services for your credit or debit cards. At present, you can use cards from Axis Bank, HDFC, ICICI, SBI and Standard Chartered.
At present Samsung Pay is supported on the company's flagship and some mid-range options which have NFC support and fingerprint sensors (optional, can be used with PIN) :
- Supported Devices: Galaxy S7 edge, Galaxy S7, Galaxy Note 5, Galaxy S6 edge+, Galaxy A5 (2016), Galaxy A7 (2016), Galaxy A5 (2017) and Galaxy A7 (2017)
- You first need to install the Samsung Pay app on your phone and then input details of your cards.
- Once you need to make a payment, select the card you want to use and authenticate with a PIN or fingerprint sensor.
- Bring it near to the point of sale terminal, and you are done.
Samsung Pay also comes with PayTM integration where you can pay using QR codes or even do peer-to-peer money tranfers. UPI is also supported in the app. Samsung covers the widest range of payment terminals with support for both MST (Magnetic Secure Transmission) as well as NFC.
