Samsung is gearing up to unveil its next generation of foldable smartphones at the upcoming Galaxy Unpacked event next week. In addition to the anticipated Galaxy Z Fold7, Galaxy Z Flip7, and Galaxy Z Flip7 FE, there are growing rumors of a tri-fold foldable phone, potentially called the Galaxy G Fold.

According to animations found in the latest One UI 8 beta—uncovered by Android Authority—the device, codenamed "Multifold 7", offers an early look at its unique form factor. Both light and dark-themed animations are included, with the dark version giving a clearer outline of the hardware.

    Key Design Highlights -

    The tri-panel rear setup includes:

    • Left Panel: Houses a triple-camera array, similar to current Galaxy Z Fold models.
    • Middle Panel: Features a cover display with a front-facing camera, usable while the phone is folded.
    • Right Panel: Appears bezel-less but is likely a blank rear panel, not an active display.

    G-Shaped Folding System -

Samsung’s tri-fold design uses a G-shaped fold mechanism—with two inward-folding hinges—unlike HUAWEI’s Mate XT S-fold structure. These hinges are asymmetrical in size, allowing the inner screen to fold flat while protecting it by tucking the blank panel inside. This approach helps prevent strain on the flexible display.

An included warning animation advises users not to close the device with the camera panel folding in first, as this could potentially damage the hinges. A recessed area on the side frame likely accommodates the volume rocker and power button.

    Naming and Launch Speculation -

Although often described as a tri-fold or triple-screen device, the design actually includes two displays and two hinges. The internal name “Multifold” might better reflect its structure.

Samsung hasn’t officially confirmed the tri-fold phone, despite teasing a similar concept at the last Galaxy Unpacked event. These software animations may represent an internal test model, so the final version—or its public debut—remains uncertain.
