Rumor: Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge to feature micro-SD card slot, water resistance, bigger batteries

    Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge

The rumor mill is in full swing about Samsung's latest Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge, even though we are a couple of months away from launch. The latest news comes from prolific leakster @evleaks saying that the new Galaxy S7 and its Edge brother will have a microSD card slot for storage expansion, one of the major gripes customers had with the current Galaxy S6/Edge. But wait, there's more.

There is also report that both the new Galaxy S7 devices will be IP67 rated for dust and water resistance. Now, if we talk about specs, it seems that Samsung is going to kill the Galaxy S7 Edge Plus for this iteration. The normal flat Galaxy S7 is expected to feature a 5.1-inch Quad-HD Super AMOLED display with Ambient or Always-on technology, while the Galaxy S7 Edge will feature a 5.5-inch dual-curved display.

But this is all speculation at this point. What we can confirm though it that the US specific variant of the Galaxy S7/Edge will run on the Snapdragon 820 quad-core processor (which it is not the first to do), while the international variant will make do with Samsung's own Exynos 8890. Given that the Exynos 7420 which was used in last years' Galaxy flagships easily beat the Snapdragon 810 in benchmarks and general use, the Exynos 8890 wouldn't be a slouch either.

Then there's bigger batteries in store for the new Galaxy flagships as well, 3000 mAh for the Galaxy S7 and 3600 for the Edge variant. Samsung is also making a new camera sensor for its flagships which is expected to bring down the megapixel count to 12MP but with bigger aperture size of f/1.7 for better low-light imaging and capturing greater detail.
