Your Pixel phone will get Android updates till 2018
Google will keep pushing major Android updates to the Pixel smartphones for the next 2 years. According to their support page, Android version updates will be given to both phones for at least 2 years.
They added, after 2 years additional updates cannot be guaranteed. The point on security updates was also cleared. You will get all security patches for the phones for at least 3 years when the devices become available.
The Support page says:
Pixel phones get security patches for at least 3 years from when the device first became available, or at least 18 months from when the Google Store last sold the device, whichever is longer.
Just to give you a brief, Google launched its own Pixel smartphones earlier this month and they are now available on pre-order. Pixel and Pixel XL run on the Snapdragon 821 quad-core processor with 4GB RAM and Android 7.1 Nougat. The company is really proud of the camera on the phone which uses a 12.3MP Sony sensor with larger pixel size for better low light performance.
