Nubia Z80 Ultra launched with 6.85-inch 1.5K 144Hz OLED display, Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 SoC, 7200mAh battery
Nubia has launched its latest flagship smartphone, the Z80 Ultra at an event in China, a successor to last year’s Z70 Ultra. The nubia Z80 Ultra features a 6.85-inch 144Hz display with no notch, built using BOE’s X10 luminous material. It delivers up to 2000 nits of local peak brightness and includes AI twilight eye protection, which automatically adjusts the color temperature and screen parameters based on sunrise and sunset times in different regions.
The display supports an instantaneous touch sampling rate of up to 3000Hz, improving frame response speed by 20%. For gaming, the phone includes physical game buttons with full-dimensional action mapping and master-level 1115E speakers, creating a BOX stereo sound setup with DTS X tuning for immersive audio.
Performance -
Under the hood, the Z80 Ultra is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 SoC, paired with up to 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM (10.7Gbps transfer speed) and UFS 4.1 storage, offering a 23% boost in random read performance.
For thermal management, the device uses the same composite liquid metal cooling system found in REDMAGIC gaming phones, helping reduce chip temperature by up to 5°C. It also includes an extra-large 3D Ice Steel VC heat sink, with a 35% larger area for improved heat dissipation.
Additionally, the Z80 Ultra includes the Red Magic game space interface, offering over 140 built-in gaming functions to enhance the mobile gaming experience.
Camera -
The nubia Z80 Ultra features a powerful triple-camera setup led by a 50MP custom OmniVision Light Master 990 sensor (1/1.3″ CMOS) with 1.2μm pixels and DCG dual conversion gain HDR technology for enhanced dynamic range. It is accompanied by a 50MP ultra-wide camera (1/1.55″ sensor, 18mm, f/1.8 aperture) and a 64MP periscope telephoto lens with a 1/2″ sensor and OIS for ultra-high-definition zoom shots.
On the software side, the phone introduces an “AI Photography Master” voice assistant, which provides real-time guidance for poses, angles, and shot composition directly through the camera interface. It also offers AI filter recommendations that automatically match filters to scenes, while still allowing users to customize their own for a personalized look.
Professional Photography Kit -
ZTE has also unveiled a Professional Photography Kit designed for the Z80 Ultra. The kit features a nano-leather body with a titanium-colored aluminum alloy frame, and the handle is wrapped in premium cowhide leather for a firm and comfortable grip. It includes mechanical operation keys, a Neo Bar smart control panel, a customizable control wheel, and an upgraded quick-release handle for faster assembly and better ergonomics.
The kit also comes with a T-mount interface supporting external lenses, along with a filter adapter ring compatible with 67mm camera filters. A cold shoe mount on the top allows users to attach fill lights, microphones, and other camera accessories, making it ideal for professional creators.
Battery and Colors -
Color options include Phantom Black, Condensed Light White, and a Starry Night Collector’s Edition. Additionally, a special Luo Tianyi Custom Edition features a striking “China Red” design, inspired by the character “Jinyiwei.”
This edition includes exclusive wallpapers, boot animations, fingerprint effects, charging animations, camera watermarks, and comes in limited-edition packaging with collectible accessories. The Z80 Ultra packs a 7200mAh battery with AI-based power optimization, supporting 90W wired and 80W wireless fast charging, along with wireless reverse charging.
