Nokia schedules big event for April 2nd, might unveil its first Windows Phone 8.1 handsets
Nokia has been uncharacteristically quite for quite some time after the big Nokia X announcement over at MWC. But now it seems that was for a reason, Nokia is all gung-ho for its April 2nd event which will be held in San Francisco. The post over at Nokia's website reads:
What makes 2014 so special is the exciting Microsoft and Nokia partnership, and boy, have we got some treats lined up for you,
You can clearly see the enthusiasm, and we won't blame them. If anything is keeping the Windows Phone platform alive, its Nokia and that just goes to show the engineering, design capability and faith the company has in itself. Nevertheless, we expect some cool new Windows Phone 8.1 handsets at the event, which if we had to guess would be the Lumia 930 and the Lumia 630. So let's talk a bit more about what we already know about them.
Nokia Lumia 930 (codenamed Martini)
The Lumia 930 will be a device similar to the Verizon exclusive Lumia Icon. It is expected to have a 4.5-inch 1080p display, quad-core Snapdragon 800 innards, 2GB RAM, 16 GB storage, 2700 mAh battery, 20 MP PureView camera and support for micro SD cards. That was rather specific wouldn't you say?
Well, actually this info comes courtesy of Nextleaks when they posted these specs back in February. It might have a dual-SIM variant as well called the Lumia 935 but that's something that's been kept under wraps till now.
Nokia Lumia 630 (codenamed Moneypenny)
Nokia's next Windows Phone 8.1 device is the Lumia 630 which will be a mid-range device comprising of the following specs:
- Display: 4.5-inch, FWVGA, 854 x 480 pixels
- Processor: Quad-core Snapdragon 400
- OS: Windows Phone 8.1 with on-screen buttons
- Camera: 5 MP camera, no physical shutter button, no LED flash
- Memory: 1 GB RAM, 8 GB storage expandable upto 64 GB
This will be a dual-SIM device or you might have a Lumia 635 which will be the dual-SIM variant of the 630 supporting GSM + WCDMA connectivity.
Well that's pretty much what we know and expect Nokia to announce at its April 2nd event which might be co-hosted with Microsoft. Nokia's acquisition by Microsoft has been delayed to April following legal tussles in India.
