HTC 10 goes official - Where's BoomSound?
HTC 10 has just gone official as promised. The new flagship from HTC runs on the Snapdragon 820 quad-core processor with 4GB RAM, 5.2-inch Quad-HD display running Android 6.0 Marshmallow.
Design - What happened to BoomSound?
The major changes on the HTC 10 are in terms of overall design and camera. It still has a full-metal unibody jacket with fingerprint sensor up front which can unlock the phone in 0.2 seconds (according to HTC.) Then there's the huge chamfered edge which carries all the way to the back, its certainly eye-catching to say the least.
Apart from that you can have center aligned camera placement at the back and gone are the stereo front-firing BoomSound speakers. Instead you get a single speaker up-front which also acts as the main earpiece to listen to calls and then you have a speaker at the bottom edge, which acts like a sub-woofer for low frequencies. HTC is calling them their best, loudest BoomSound speakers yet, but that's something I can't get my head around. For me, 2 front-firing stereo speakers would always sound a better that a downward firing and a front firing combo. But there's support for Dolby Audio as well, which may boost sound fidelity a bit and then there's native AirPlay support as well.
Camera - Improvement?
Anyways, moving on, HTC has packed the latest UltraPixel 2 camera on the back of the HTC 10. It utilizes a 12MP sensor with f/1.8 aperture (same as the Galaxy S7/S7 Edge) alongwith a large 1.34um pixel size for better low-light performance alongwith Optical Image Stabilization. There's also a 5MP UltraPixel front-facing camera, f/1.8 aperture with 86-degree wide-angle lens and gets this, the front-facing camera also features Optical Image Stabilization for blur-free selfies. 4K recording comes standard and you have slow motion recording available here as well.
Connectivity & Storage
Connectivity options are aplenty with 4G LTE, Global Roaming, dual-band WiFiac, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS, NFC as well as a USB Type-C port with support Qualcomm QuickCharge 3.0 for fast charging the 3000 mAh battery. Coming to storage options, 4GB RAM comes standard and you can get the HTC 10 with either 32GB or 64GB of internal storage which can further be expanded with a microSD Card slot.
