Google Developing New 'Pixelsnap' Magnetic Wireless Charging System with Qi 2.2 Support for Pixel 10 Series
Google is working on a new magnetic wireless charging system called Pixelsnap, set to debut with the upcoming Pixel 10 series, according to retailer marketing materials obtained by Android Authority.
What is the Pixelsnap Ecosystem?
The Pixelsnap ecosystem will reportedly include three accessories:
- Pixelsnap Charger – A standard magnetic wireless charger, functioning similarly to Apple’s MagSafe.
- Pixelsnap Charger with Stand – A magnetic charger that also acts as a phone stand.
- Pixelsnap Ring Stand – A compact ring accessory that props up the phone for hands-free use.
These accessories are designed to enhance charging convenience and usability, aligning with Google’s push to integrate Hub Mode into Pixel phones, transforming them into smart displays while charging, much like Apple’s Standby Mode on iPhones.
Technical Details and Features -
Additional insights from a trade listing reveal that the Pixelsnap charger supports Qi 2.2 and Magnetic Power Profile (MPP). Codenamed “STN4”, the charger will be available in two colors: “Rock Candy” (likely black) and “Mist” (off-white), reflecting Google’s signature naming style.
The system is confirmed to be part of the Pixel 10 launch, with the phones featuring Qi 2.2 wireless charging powered by the ConvenientPower CPS4041 chip, which theoretically supports up to 60W charging. However, Google may impose its own limits on the final charging speeds.
While Apple contributed its MagSafe tech to the Wireless Power Consortium in 2023, Android manufacturers have been slow to adopt magnetic Qi 2 standards. The Pixel 10 could mark a major shift, becoming one of the first Android phones with integrated Qi 2.2 magnetic support.
Expected Launch Timeline -
Google is expected to unveil the Pixel 10 series at its Made by Google event on August 20, 2025. Pre-orders are likely to open the same day, with shipping scheduled for August 28. An official announcement is expected soon.
