Apple iPhone Air launched; India price starts at Rs. 1,19,900 with 6.5-inch 120Hz ProMotion display, A19 Pro SoC, 5.6mm sleek design
Apple has launched its first device in the new AIR series, the iPhone Air in the Global Market, including India, along with the iPhone 17. At just 5.6mm, it is the slimmest iPhone ever made. The iPhone Air sports a 6.5-inch Super Retina XDR display with ProMotion supporting up to 120Hz, 3,000 nits peak brightness, and an Always-On mode that scales down to 1Hz for power efficiency.
Built with a Grade 5 titanium frame and a high-gloss mirror finish, the device introduces a precision-milled plateau on the back housing the cameras, speaker, and Apple Silicon. This design optimizes internal space for a larger battery, promising all-day use. It also incorporates the Action button and Camera Control.
Like the iPhone 17, it features Ceramic Shield 2 on the front, delivering 3x better scratch resistance and improved anti-reflection. For the first time, the back cover also uses Ceramic Shield, offering 4x greater crack resistance compared to previous glass-backed iPhones.
Apple A19 Pro -
The iPhone Air is powered by the Apple A19 Pro 3nm SoC, featuring a 6-core CPU and a 5-core GPU with Neural Accelerators integrated into each GPU core, delivering up to 3x faster peak GPU performance compared to the previous generation, according to Apple. In a first for Apple, the iPhone Air adopts an eSIM-only design worldwide, a move aimed at optimizing internal space.
It also debuts the N1 chip, Apple’s new wireless networking processor that supports Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread, enhancing both performance and reliability for features like AirDrop and Personal Hotspot. For connectivity, the iPhone Air introduces the C1X cellular modem, offering speeds up to 2x faster than C1 and outperforming the iPhone 16 Pro’s modem, all while consuming 30% less power.
Cameras -
The iPhone Air is equipped with a single 48MP Fusion camera paired with a 12MP optical-quality 2x Telephoto. It introduces a new image pipeline that delivers next-generation portraits with Focus Control, capturing depth data automatically so photos can be converted into portraits later in the Photos app. On the front, there’s a new 18MP Center Stage camera, the first iPhone to use a square sensor, providing a wider field of view and higher resolution.
Users no longer need to rotate their phone for landscape selfies — photos and videos can now be captured in portrait or landscape while holding the device vertically. For group shots, AI-powered Center Stage automatically expands the frame and can switch between portrait and landscape to fit everyone in. The front camera also supports ultra-stabilized 4K HDR video and Dual Capture, allowing simultaneous recording from both front and rear cameras.
Despite its slim profile, the iPhone Air still promises all-day battery life, with up to 27 hours of video playback.
