Android Nougat comes to the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 thanks to unofficial CM14 port
Given the huge number of Redmi Note 3 devices sold in India, there is a huge developer base gunning to get the latest from Google running on their smartphones. Case in point, an enterprising developer from India, Santhosh M, has created an Android 7.0 Nougat build based on CyanogenMod 14 for the Redmi Note 3 Snapdragon variant.
Now, he insists this is a work in progress and not meant for everyday use, but its still great to see the community get involved. Most of the normal phone functions are working including WiFi, audio, bluetooth, GPS, calling, fingerprint sensor and others. What's not working in video recording and photo capture on some Redmi Note 3 units based on which sensor they have.
Some CyanogenMod features have not been implement as yet. But as he said:
It is very much in alpha stage there are bound to be lot of CM related bugs and device related bugs as well.
You can head to the source link to give the new CM14 Nougat ROM a try, but we would not recommend it at this stage. But you can follow the development from there and can also help out the developer by giving feedback in case you install it.
Xiaomi had also recently rolled out Android Marshmallow update for the Redmi Note 3 on its Global Beta channel with MIUI 8 v6.9.9 which may be merged with the Stable ROM next month. We will be keeping an eye on the development on both fronts, so stay tuned for more news.
