Xiaomi 17 Series Global Launch Set for February 28 at MWC 2026 with Leica Collaboration
Xiaomi has officially confirmed that the Xiaomi 17 series will make its global debut on February 28, 2026, at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. The announcement follows the lineup’s initial introduction in China last year.
Positioned under the theme “The New Wave of Imagery,” the event is set to spotlight Xiaomi’s expanded collaboration with the German optics powerhouse Leica, marking a new chapter in their imaging partnership.
From Co-Engineering to Strategic Co-Creation -
The biggest development surrounding the Xiaomi 17 series is the transformation of the Xiaomi–Leica partnership. In a joint letter signed by Leica CEO Matthias Harsch and Xiaomi President William Lu, both companies revealed that their collaboration is evolving from standard “co-engineering” into a more comprehensive “strategic co-creation” approach.
The emphasis, according to the statement, is on rediscovering the essence of “Essential Leica Imagery.” This means the collaboration now extends far beyond branding or software-level color tuning. Teams from both companies have worked closely to integrate Leica’s professional optical expertise, classic design language, and tactile interface philosophy directly into the new flagship devices.
The broader ambition is to create a smartphone camera system that does more than capture images — one that renders light and shadow with depth and character to inspire emotion, tell compelling stories, and preserve meaningful moments.
What to Expect: Xiaomi 17 Ultra -
The Xiaomi 17 Ultra is expected to headline the Barcelona showcase. Based on teasers and its earlier China debut, here’s what the global audience can anticipate:
Advanced Optical Hardware -
Teaser visuals reveal a large circular camera module dominating the rear panel. The 17 Ultra is rumored to feature a next-generation 1-inch primary sensor optimized for exceptional low-light performance. It is also expected to introduce an industry-first Leica APO-certified telephoto lens engineered to significantly reduce chromatic aberration and color fringing.
Flagship-Level Performance -
To power its imaging capabilities, the global model is widely expected to run on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset. A substantial 6,000mAh battery is also anticipated, aimed at supporting extended photography and videography sessions.
Authentic Camera-Inspired Design -
In line with the promise of delivering a true Leica feel, the device is tipped to feature premium dual-tone finishes, possibly combining leather textures with matte surfaces — a design nod to classic Leica M-series rangefinder cameras.
The Xiaomi 17 series global launch event will begin at 2 PM Barcelona time (6:30 PM IST) on February 28, 2026, and Xiaomi is expected to livestream the presentation for audiences worldwide.
