Sony smartphones may be going the bezel-less way too, here's our first look

Sony hasn't changed its smartphone design philosophy till now. But if leaks are true, we may see the first 2:1 display smartphone from Sony soon. According to a leaked image, Sony may be working on two smartphones with bezel-less design.

As you can see in the images below, both phones come with narrow bezels on all sides, and also a dual camera setup. But both phones do differ a lot in terms of overall design.

There are no details on the exact hardware specifications of these phones at this point, rumors point to a 5.7-inch 4K 18:9 display on one of these smartphones. Coming back to the design, Sony may still be experimenting with the camera placement on the phone. One of the smartphones, the flash sits between two cameras, while on the other, you see a more conventional dual camera setup.

The fingerprint sensor can be found on the back in one of the designs. If we had to venture a guess, Sony's bezel-less smartphone will run on Snapdragon 845, that was announced last week. These will come with at least 6GB RAM. Both phones are also expected to run on Android 8.1 Oreo at launch and offer USB Type-C port with fast charging. Pricing will be the key to making these smartphones a success, given the recent surge in pricing of premium smartphones, the new Sony Xperia smartphones may cost as much as $950 at launch.

Bezel-less smartphones have now gone mainstream. While company's call them Full-View, Full-Vision, Full-Screen displays, the new bezel-less trend of 18:9 aspect ratio displays is here to stay. What started with the Xiaomi Mi Mix has been taken to the masses with the Samsung Galaxy S8, which completely eliminated side bezels with its "Infinity Display". Apple went a step further an completely removed the top and bottom bezels on the iPhone X, giving the phone the highest screen to body ratio.
