Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10.1 (2016) with S-Pen goes official

Samsung's latest tablet with S-Pen has just gone official, the Galaxy Tab A 10.1 (SM-P580/SM-P585) was just listed online on the company's website.

It comes with a 10.1-inch WUXGA (1920x1200) pixels display running on a 1.6GHz octa-core Exynos 7870 processor with 3GB RAM and 32GB onboard storage. There is a microSD card slot there to expand storage upto 256GB. All this runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

Coming to cameras you get an 8MP rear camera with LED flash capable of recording 1080p videos and a 2MP front-facing camera for selfies. In terms of specs it's similar to the the Galaxy Tab A 10.1 and you would be able to get this one too in WiFi and 4G LTE variants. Other connectivity options include WiFi, GPS with GLONASS and Bluetooth 4.1. Powering all this is a 7300 mAh battery which is said to last 14 hours on WiFi browsing and 13 hours on LTE. All this is neatly packaged in a 8.2mm thin shell weighing at 558 grams.

But the major highlight here is the S-Pen support, which means you now get a digitizer for pen input on the display itself similar to Samsung's Note series. The Marshmallow build here has been optimized to make use of writing and drawing capabilities of the S-Pen. It has similar functionality to the Galaxy Note 7 where you can translate word or find dictionary meaning. Off-screen memo has also been ported here, meaning as soon as you take the S-Pen out of the Galaxy Tab A 10.1 (2016), you can start taking notes on its display and pin them on the lock screen to check later.

At present there is no word on a global rollout, but the new Tab A 10.1 (2016) with S-Pen is expected to start at EUR 350 ($390 or Rs. 26000).
