Nokia and vivo Resolve Dispute with New Cross-License 5G Patent Agreement

Nokia has announced the signing of a new patent cross-license agreement with vivo, encompassing fundamental inventions in cellular technologies for both parties. This agreement resolves the longstanding dispute between Nokia and vivo across all jurisdictions regarding patent payments.

According to Nokia, the agreement involves payments from vivo over a multi-year period, including catch-up payments to address the dispute duration. However, the specific terms of the agreement remain confidential between the involved parties, thus the financial details have not been disclosed.

Last month, Nokia finalized a multi-year 5G patent deal with OPPO, effectively resolving disputes. This marks the sixth significant smartphone agreement Nokia has reached in the past 12 months.

vivo stated that it has submitted patent applications in more than 70 countries and regions, boasting a patent portfolio of 25,000 families as of December 31, 2023. This includes over 6,000 families of 5G standard-essential patents, with over 2,500 families declared to ETSI and approximately 13,500 standard document submissions to 3GPP.
