Motorola moto g87 launched Globally with 6.78-inch 1.5K 120Hz AMOLED display, 200MP camera, IP69 ratings
Motorola has launched its latest smartphone in the G series lineup, the moto g87 for the Global market, the successor to last year’s moto g77. The new model brings significant upgrades in camera capabilities, display quality, and overall durability compared to its predecessor.
Camera System -
The moto g87 features an advanced camera setup built around a new high-resolution primary sensor.
- Main Camera - A 200MP sensor with Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) and Ultra Pixel technology, which Motorola claims improves light sensitivity by up to 16x for better low-light shots. It also supports 2x lossless zoom.
- Secondary Cameras - The rear setup includes an 8MP ultrawide lens, while the front houses a 32MP camera for selfies and video calls.
- Software Features - The camera app includes tools like Auto Smile Capture and a flexible Portrait Mode with 24mm, 35mm, and 50mm focal lengths. Integration with Google Photos enables AI-powered features such as Magic Eraser, Photo Unblur, Reimagine, and Auto Frame.
Display -
The device features a 6.78-inch (marketed as 6.8-inch in some regions) Extreme AMOLED display with a 1.5K resolution, delivering around 17% sharper visuals than standard Full HD. It supports a 120Hz refresh rate for smoother scrolling and media playback.
The display also includes a High Brightness Mode capable of reaching up to 5000 nits, with an ambient light sensor dynamically adjusting brightness for different lighting conditions.
Durability and Build Quality -
Motorola has emphasized durability with the moto g87, equipping it with IP66, IP68, and IP69 ratings for strong resistance against dust and water, including submersion. The display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 7i, and the device meets MIL-STD-810H military standards, allowing it to withstand drops of up to 1.2 meters. It will be available in three Pantone-curated color options.
Audio -
The smartphone delivers an upgraded audio experience with sound output claimed to be up to 280% louder than the previous generation. It features dual stereo speakers, Dolby Atmos support for immersive audio, and Hi-Res Audio certification for enhanced sound quality.
Performance and Battery -
The moto g87 is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 6400 processor with 5G support, paired with up to 12GB of RAM, which can be virtually expanded up to 24GB using Motorola’s RAM Boost feature. It is backed by a 5200mAh battery and supports 30W TurboPower fast charging.
Software
The moto g87 runs on Android 16 and includes Motorola’s custom features such as Hello UX for personalization, Moto Secure for enhanced privacy, and Smart Connect for seamless cross-device interaction. It also integrates Google services like Gemini (Chat with Gemini) and Circle to Search for improved usability.
