Lenovo's 6.98-inch Phab and 6.8-inch Phab Plus go official, border into tablet category

What's the difference between a smartphone and a tablet? You'll probably say size or screen-size, right?

Well, Lenovo didn't get the memo when they announced the 6.98-inch Phab and 6.8-inch Phab Plus. On the hardware front, both the Phab Plus and the Phab have 1080p displays running Android 5.0 Lollipop with Lenovo's custom Vibe UI skin on top. Both also feature 13MP rear cameras with LED flash and 5MP front-cameras.

The Lenovo Phab Plus is powered by a 64-bit octa-core Snapdragon 615 processor with 2GB RAM, 32GB storage which can be expanded with a microSD card on the hybrid second SIM card slot. It tips the scale at 220 grams and packs a meaty 3500 mAh battery, definitely necessary for that 6.8-inch display. Its massive in every aspect including weight but is relatively thin at just 7.6mm. The uni-body metal build atleast would help make the device sturdier.

The Lenovo Phab on the other hand makes do with a quad-core 64-bit Qualcomm processor (probably Snapdragon 410) with 1GB RAM, 16GB expandable storage. This one is a tad bit larger with a 6.98-inch display, which is definitely in tablet territory with a 4250 mAh battery no less. But make no mistake you can make calls with this one no matter how awkward it would be. It comes with 4G LTE support to do just that.

If you are looking for budget tablets, the Lenovo Phab Plus will be available in Gunmetal Grey, Titanium Silver and Champagne Gold colors priced at USD 299 (about INR 20,000.) The Lenovo Phab will be available in more color choices including Tuxedo Black, Polar White, Aqua Blue and Cherry Red priced at USD 179 (about INR 12,000). Both will be available in several regions including China, India, the Middle East, Latin America and Eastern Europe starting late September 2015.
