Google announces Android 4.3 and a new catchphrase 'It Just Works'!
Android 4.3 is now out, it isn't a major shift from Android 4.2, but there are a few added features and improvements. There's a redesigned camera interface, performance improvements and support for Bluetooth Low Energy, which allows for your various fitness devices to remain tethered to your Android smartphone without draining your battery.
Some of the new features of Android 4.3 include:
Multi-user Restricted Profiles
Although Android 4.2 added the concept of multiple profiles on your smartphone, the new restricted profiles options allows the restriction of apps and services to a particular account, thereby enabling parental controls. You can block in-app purhcases, and more features from an enterprise standpoint making Android suitable for the BYOD culture.
Bluetooth LE (Low Energy) support
Google finally acknowledges the need for Bluetooth Smart or Bluetooth LE in Android 4.3, which allows accessories to be connected to your Android smartphone without sapping its battery life. In short this welcomes smart watches, health monitors and fitness trackers to Google's fold.
OpenGL ES 3.0
This is the latest standard in game development graphics, and Android is the first platform to support it. It will allow for faster rendering of life-like graphics in 1080p in real-time. This is a big bonus for Game developers.
Notification Access
Android will now allow you to access and interact with notifications from the status bar, which can now be displayed on other paired devices, alongwith the ability to change their read status or dismiss them.
The previous-gen Nexus 7 is getting the Android 4.3 updated today, while the new Nexus 7 already ships with Android 4.3.
