Epic Games Announces Fortnite Return to iOS Devices within the EU in 2024
Epic Games has officially announced Fortnite's comeback to iOS devices in 2024, unveiling plans to introduce the Epic Store on the platform within the European Union (EU). This decision comes following Apple's approval of third-party app stores for iOS users in the EU as mandated by the Digital Markets Act, slated for implementation in March of this year.
Fortnite will return to iOS in Europe in 2024, distributed by the upcoming @EpicGames Store for iOS. Stay tuned for details as we figure out the regulatory timeline. We'll continue to argue to the courts and regulators that Apple is breaking the law. https://t.co/MHh6EGVinC

Fortnite was removed from the App Store in 2020 due to Epic Games' violation of Apple's guidelines. Now, Epic intends to operate the Epic Store on iPhones within the EU, enabling users to download Fortnite.
However, Epic CEO Tim Sweeney has voiced criticism against Apple's policy adjustments, describing them as a "devious instance of malicious compliance." While Apple imposes a 0.50 euro fee per user per year for apps outside the App Store, there are no commissions or in-app fees.
Sweeney argues against Apple's charges, labeling them as "junk fees," and also expresses concerns regarding the notarization process, which could potentially impede Epic from launching the Epic Games Store on iOS. Although Epic aims to introduce the store "later this year," obstacles may arise due to Apple's oversight of third-party app stores.
Epic has long aspired to bring its game store to the iPhone, offering lower fees compared to Apple's App Store. The launch is anticipated to encompass regions in Europe governed by the Digital Markets Act, although specific details regarding availability remain undisclosed.
