Blackberry has hit hard times, may layoff 40% staff says the WSJ
It seems there's no saving Blackberry, once considered as the most secure enterprise device solution, now there are very few takers of the new Blackberry 10 devices and the old ones have made way for the iPhone and countless Android smartphones. Its been widely reported that the Blackberry board formerly Research In Motion is considering a proposal to sell the company, but a new report from WSJ suggests that the company is going to layoff 40% of its workforce in the coming months.
Wall Street Journal reports that the job cuts will occur "in waves", and considering that Blackberry has about 12,700 employees worldwide according to last official estimates that means atleast 5000 people will loose their jobs. Thorsten Heins, CEO of Blackberry had earlier detailed his plans about streamlining the company by closing down manufacturing units, job cuts and focusing on a small number of products. It seems that this was not enough to keep the Canadian company afloat, and this massive layoff might be coming in time that the board is getting ready to sell the company's core assets.
Although this hasn't stopped Blackberry from forging ahead with their new flagship device the Blackberry Z30 and launch of BBM, Blackberry Messenger, for Android and iOS. Let's see how long it takes before the board folds.
