Apple iPhone 7 and 7 Plus have bigger batteries, more RAM than before

There were rumors earlier that Apple will be including bigger batteries this time around on the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. It has now been confirmed thanks to Chinese mobile certification agency TENNA.

Both smartphones passed the agency giving specific details on memory and battery capacity. The iPhone 7 has a 1960 mAh battery now compared to 1715 mAh on the iPhone 6s while the iPhone 7 Plus gets a 150 mAh boost to 2900 mAh. You may think both are even lower than basic Android smartphones, but that's because Apple doesn't use very high-res displays on its phones and their chipset architecture is different than what most Android smartphones go for.

You may think that this would automatically get you better battery life on the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. But there may not be a direct correlation between the small increase in capacity and how long the battery lasts, given that Apple has now gone with a quad-core A10 Fusion processor which would require more power than the A9 dual-core found on iOS devices previously.

Coming to memory, the iPhone 7 now makes use of 2GB RAM while the dual camera iPhone 7 Plus gets 3GB RAM. Again stark contrast to Android flagships where 4GB Is the new norm with 6GB RAM being offered by several OEMs. Goes to show throwing more specs at a problem rather than optimization is not the solution.
