This is the Moto M - Detailed Specs, Stereo Speakers, Fast Charging, Other Features and Release Date
The Moto M has been leaking left and right, and this is the biggest one yet. Today we have press renders, as well as promotional material for the Moto M which show all the features of the new Motorola smartphone, expected to launch on November 8th in China.
Hardware Specifications
From what we have been hearing the Moto M (XT1662) will run on the newly re-christened MediaTek Helio X15 octa-core processor which improves upon its predecessor with higher clock speed and better GPU performance. It comprises of eight Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 2.2GHz and the GPU of choice is the Mali-T860 MP2 which has also received a 100MHz speed boost. Then there's the 5.5-inch 1080p display with very thin bezels covered in 2.5D glass.
To keep your current apps in memory, the phone will have 4GB RAM and 32GB of internal storage which would be expandable with a microSD card slot. You have two nano-SIM card slots here with 4G VoLTE, supporting up to 300 Mbps download speeds. All this is powered by a 3050 mAh battery which also supports fast charging over the USB Type-C port of the phone.
Moving to cameras, you have a 16MP rear unit with phase-detection autofocus, dual-tone LED flash with CCT along with an 8MP front camera with an 85-degree wide angle lens.
Build and Design
Moto M is a departure for Motorola's current Moto Z and Moto G4 lineup, as it comes with an all metal back cover which is just 4.3mm at its thinnest point where the back meets the front glass. The back is curved to make the phone easier to grip and you have 2.5D curved glass in the front which is seamlessly integrated with the metal rear panel.
One of the biggest changes in design is that the fingerprint sensor has now been moved to the back, just below the camera module. Don't worry the Moto dimple is still there but moved to the bottom of the device.
The front houses the "Moto" branding just below the 5.5-inch display. It's a very clean design to look at from the front, moving to the back, things get a bit busy. You have the protruding camera module up top then the fingerprint sensor with antenna lines running horizontally at the top and bottom.
The back of the Moto M curves very dramatically on both sides giving it a very thin profile even though it may be chunkier in the middle. Another neat addition is the dual speaker setup which gives you stereo output thanks to one bottom firing and one front firing (earpiece) speaker similar to the HTC 10. You also have Dolby Atmos support for better audio quality as well as 360-degree surround sound when you use headphones.
In terms of protection, the Moto M can survive light rain showers and splashes with the help of dual P2i coating both inside and out.
Release Date and Pricing
The Moto M is expected to be launched on November 8th at an event in China, priced at 1999 Yuan (Rs. 19,800 or $295). At present, there is no word on colors, but till now we have only seen the gold option in the various leaks. We will know more next week if the Moto M will be making its way to India or not.
