YU Yunicorn flagship smartphone launching on May 19th in India
YU Televentures has been teasing the launch of its next flagship, the YU Yunicorn, for a few days now, and now the company has started rolling out invites for the event on May 19th in New Delhi, India.
The invite reads:
Fantasy will soon become reality. Join us in the unveiling of the phone that will redefine flagships.
We have been hearing about a YU5530 smartphone running on a Helio P10 processor with 4GB RAM which is being pegged as the next YU flagship. But the company may have a completely different smartphone in store for us, especially given the claims in the recent teasers.
From what we have gathered till now, the next YU flagship will run on stock Android and not on Cyanogen OS, since the previous agreement between the two has now expired.
Rahul Sharma, CEO - YU Televentures, while talking to TOI said that it was clear from customer feedback that they preferred stock Android over Cyanogen.
At YU, our brand promise is to be a community driven brand. Earlier we had launched a few phones running pure Android along with CyanogenOS devices. The feedback from the community was that they liked pure android more. So going forward we will focus on it. Also, the intention is to work towards an ecosystem and curate the ROMs that a lot of our users submit. Our new project will benefit the users and the developer community as we are working on Source Code Supply Chain Management system.
The Yutopia wasn't a major success for the company in the same terms as the Yureka, Yureka Plus were. But Cyanogen or its integration was to blame for many of the issues of these smartphones. We will be covering the launch event live to see what YU has to offer this time around.
