XOLO Q1200 Gaming Review

The XOLO Q1200 comes with the all-so-familiar MediaTek MT6582 SoC with a 1.3 GHz quad-core processor, 1 GB RAM and more importantly Mali-400MP2 GPU. There's a 5-inch HD IPS display on board which is one of the best displays I have seen grace this price bracket. But the Q1200 runs a heavily skinned Android 4.2 Jelly Bean which does degrade performance a little bit. Even in benchmarks we found it lag behind the competition with similar specs. Let's see how the XOLO Q1200 is able to do in our extensive gaming review.

    Gaming Review

We played several games on the XOLO Q1200 including HD games like Asphalt 8, MC4, NOVA 3, NFS: Most Wanted, Real Racing 3, FIFA 14 and the likes. All were installed at the same time as app and app-data are movable to the external SD card. The Q1200 is able to play most games without lag, but the framerate is a bit inconsistent. The dual speakers at the back are loud and clear as well.

But the major issue here is not inconsistent framerates but overheating. The Q1200 has a metallic back and owing to that it gets quite hot with continuous gaming. That's something you would notice within a few minutes of gaming. Even in general use the phone goes get a bit hot.

    Conclusion

The metallic build of the XOLO Q1200 makes the phone easily prone to overheating. This is clearly evident in gaming on the phone. To add to that the gameplay to is inconsistent with framedrop and lag in some games. The heating issues as well as laggy gameplay can be fixed with software updates as we have seen XOLO do before. But for the time being, we can say that the Q1200 is definitely not meant for gaming.
