Xiaomi Mi 5s live photo shows a circular iPhone-like home button
Today a live photo of the upcoming Xiaomi Mi 5s appeared online which is said to feature Qualcomm's SenseID Ultrasonic Fingerprint Sensor which can work even when the sensor is put under the front glass panel.
But instead of completely ditching the physical home button, it seems Xiaomi is going for a circular button (capacitive?) like the iPhone albeit smaller. The ring around the button could be used for notifications though, which would be very neat.
This image does fit into the context of Xiaomi using an under glass fingerprint sensor, so there would be no need of a home button as such physical, capacitive or otherwise. But the circular ring does remind me of Apple's iPhone. Another feature that the Mi 5s is expected to "borrow" from Apple's stable is 3G Touch or Force Touch which would enable additional actions based on how hard on press on the display. It's similar to right click on PC's but can have far more usability like zooming into images, controlling playback and also eliminate the need for a menu button.
According to previous leaks the XIaomi Mi 5s is expected to come with a 5.15-inch 1080p with Force Touch running on the Snapdragon 821 quad-core chipset with Adreno 530 GPU. We expect it to be available in a 4GB RAM and 6GB RAM version with maximum storage upto 256GB.
The Mi 5s is expected to sport a 16MP rear camera with Optical Image Stabilization and a 3490 mAh battery with support for Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0. Connectivity options should be similar to the last-gen Mi 5 with USB Type-C port, dual-SIM 4G with VoLTE, Bluetooth, GPS, NFC and dual-band WiFi. Given these specs, the Xiaomi Mi 5s looks like a pretty huge upgrade over the Mi 5. But maybe we are leaning a bit too far into the void, let's get back and wait for it to launch officially.
