Xiaomi Amazfit is an affordable GPS equipped smartwatch
Xiaomi is known for making well built, affordable products. Their first fitness tracker the Mi band was a huge success which made Xiaomi one of the top players in the segment. Earlier, Xiaomi had announced a smartwatch for kids and now we have one GPS enabled watch for us adults.
The Xiaomi Amazfit runs for their own custom OS but can be used on your Android smartphone with the Mi Fit App. You get step tracking, sleep tracking as well as a heart-rate sensor built in here. It has been manufactured by Xiaomi-backed Huami.
But the highlight here is the including of a GPS sensor on the smartwatch which the company claims is world's first with a 28nm sensor. Coming back to software, you have notification support baked in as well.
The Amazfit comes with a 1.34-inch round 300x300 pixels display running on a 1.2GHz processor with 512MB RAM and 4GB onboard storage. It is water resistant and the heart-rate sensor measures continuously unlike the Mi band 2. The 200 mAh battery onboard is supposed to give 5 days of battery life with normal use and with GPS on you would get 30 hours.
As with all Xiaomi products, the Amazfit is priced quite aggressively at 799 yuan or about $120 (Rs. 8000). It will be launching in China tomorrow but there is no word on an international release.
