WhatsApp to remove BlackBerry support later this year
WhatsApp has announced that it will let go of BlackBerry as one of its supported platforms by the end of 2016. This includes the phones that are running BlackBerry 10 OS.
The house-cleaning initiative from WhatsApp comes when the company is trying to focus more on platforms that are used by majority of the people. There are some other platforms also getting the boot including Nokia S40, Symbian S60, anything earlier than Android 3.0 as well as Windows Phone 7.1.
Blackberry usage has been declining for the better part of the last decade and it makes for companies to not invest in the platform especially given that BlackBerry themselves have shifted to Android now. For those who are still using devices running above platforms, its time for an upgrade.
