Vivo X Fold5 will feature an 8T LTPO foldable and outer displays, IPX9+ underwater folding, IP5X dustproof ratings
Vivo has been teasing its latest upcoming foldable smartphone, the Vivo X Fold5, the successor to last year’s X Fold3, over the past few days. Today, Vivo product manager Han Boxiao confirmed that the upcoming foldable will feature both inner and outer 8T LTPO AMOLED displays.
Display and Battery Technology -
He explained that the display will offer ultra-high resolution and pixel density, delivering exceptionally clear and detailed visuals. The screen will support up to 4500 nits of local peak brightness, combined with full brightness high-frequency PWM dimming, and carry TÜV Rheinland’s global eye protection 3.0 certification, making it both bright and gentle on the eyes.
Additionally, Zeiss Master Color technology will ensure accurate color reproduction and impactful visual performance. Earlier today, he also highlighted that the X Fold5 will remain functional even in temperatures as low as -30°C, thanks to second-generation semi-solid battery tech. This battery extends the solid electrolyte from the positive to the negative electrode, improving on the previous generation’s capabilities.
Industry-First IPX9+ and IP5X Ratings for a Foldable -
The vivo X Fold5 boasts three comprehensive certifications: IPX8 (3-meter water resistance), IPX9 (resistance to high temperature and pressure), and IPX9+ (underwater folding capability). It is also the first foldable phone in the industry to achieve IP5X dustproof certification.
Expected Specifications -
According to earlier reports, the phone will include a battery capacity exceeding 6000mAh, 90W wired charging, 30W wireless charging, a 50MP Sony IMX921 primary sensor, a 50MP autofocus ultra-wide camera, a 50MP Sony IMX882 3x periscope telephoto lens, and will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor.
The vivo product manager also mentioned that the device will set a new record as the world’s lightest large inward-folding smartphone. A side profile comparison with the iPhone 16 Pro Max showcased just how slim it is. Unlike previous models with ultrasonic fingerprint sensors, the X Fold5 will feature a side-mounted fingerprint scanner.
The vivo X Fold5 is expected to launch later this June, with the exact date to be announced soon. The company is not anticipated to release a Pro variant this year.
