TCL 560 smartphone launching in India on July 4th with Iris scanner
TCL is officially entering India with a new smartphone, the TCL 560 on July 4th. The company has send out press invites for the global launch event in New Delhi.
Now, TCL is not a new player in the mobile domain, they have been selling phones for quite a while under the Alcatel brand name.
The July 4th event will see the launch of yet another smartphone with an Iris scanner. Now, just last year TCL had launched its Pride smartphone in India with an Iris scanner sort of thing, which just used the front camera to capture biometric information about your eyes. This time around it may be a specific sensor used for the purpose.
According to experts, Iris recognition is far more secure than fingerprints as there are 266 distinguishable features that can be detected in an eye as opposed to just 40 in a fingerprint. TCL won't be the first manufacturer to bring Iris scanning to Android, just yesterday Reliance Lyf launched the Earth 2 in India featuring similar technology. Then there's Samsung, which is rumored to bring the tech to its Galaxy Note 7 flagship.
At present not much is known about the TCL 560 other than the fact that it may come with a 5.5-inch 1080p display, running on a quad-core processor with Android Marshmallow out of the box.
