Samsung Pay comes to Spain but with support for contactless payment terminals only

    Samsung Pay Visa

Samsung Pay has finally landed in Spain. The company had earlier mentioned plans on expansion in the UK, Spain and Australia back in January, it seems they are working out.

Samsung has partnered with CaixaBank and ImaginBank in Spain for the service and also mentioned that they are working on getting Abanca and Banco Sabadell onboard. Spain is the first country in Europe to get Samsung Pay access, but the company hasn't introduced support for conventional magnetic card readers and you would have to do with contactless payment terminals with NFC.

Support for older magnetic payment terminals is the leverage Samsung Pay has over Android Pay and Apple Pay, but it seems the company had to remove this feature due to regulatory issues.

Samsung Pay in Spain would work with the Galaxy S7, S7 Edge, Galaxy S6, S6 egde and Galaxy S6 edge+. Support for more devices including the Galaxy A5 (2016) will be added in the coming weeks.
