Samsung Gear Fit 2 and Gear IconX wireless earbuds are now official
Samsung has finally unveiled the Gear Fit 2 and Gear Icon X truly-wireless headset at an event in New York. Both are interesting in their own right, but the Gear Icon X stand apart, quite literally.
Gear Fit 2
The Gear Fit 2 is the successor of the original Gear Fit and now it comes with a 1.55-inch Super AMOLED display running on a 1GHz dual-core Samsung processor with 4GB onboard storage.
It also comes with GPS, optical heart-rate sensor so that you can track your activity without being tethered to a smartphone. There's IP68 certification as well, meaning the new Gear Fit is dust/water resistant and you can take it for a swim. With the 200mAh built-in battery you get 3 days of use or 5 days standby.
Gear IconX
This is more interesting of the two. The Gear IconX are completely wireless headsets. You just have two earbuds that you place on each ear and they sync with each other wirelessly. You have 4GB onboard storage to carry your music with your and these need not be tethered to your phone during a workout. You have touch based controls to navigate through your playlist and track your activity that syncs with SHealth.
Now, the battery on the Gear IconX is contained in the earbuds themselves, therefore you wouldn't expect great battery life but that's a trade-off for a completely wireless solution. Samsung says they last about 3.5 hours when listening to music stored on them, and just 1.5 hours when streaming music. But they charge quick with the including charging cradle which hold both earbuds and it carries 2 full charges.
Pricing and Availability
The Samsung Gear Fit 2 will go on pre-order starting tomorrow for $180 and will be available on June 10th. There is no word on pricing on the Gear IconX but the company said that they will be available later in Q3.
