Samsung Galaxy S Duos 2 S7582 Benchmarks on AnTuTu, Quadrant, Vellamo and NenaMark

Samsung has a new horse in the lower mid-range segment, the Galaxy S Duos 2 GT-S7582. At the present moment it seems its sure to be a winner with its 1.2 GHz dual-core processor, 768MB RAM RAM and a 4-inch WVGA display. Not much has changed in the new avatar of the Galaxy S Duos, apart from the dual-core processor and Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. There are several options available in the same price bracket of about Rs. 10,000 including quad-core options like the XOLO Q800, Karbonn Titanium S2 and the likes. So how does Galaxy S Duos 2 match upto its competition, most important of which is the Sony Xperia M? Lets have a look in our benchmarking review of the Samsung Galaxy S Duos 2 S7582.

Hardware Overview

The Galaxy S Duos 2 is powered by a  dual-core Broadcom chipset with Videocore IV GPU, but 768 MB RAM just seems a bit stingy from Samsung considering the price point. There's a 5MP primary shooter with LED flash and VGA front-facing camera. The display on the Galaxy S Duos 2 is the same as the previous-gen at 4-inch WVGA resolution.

There are several sensors available on the S7582, namely:

• Magnetic Field Sensor
• Acceleration Sensor
• Proximity Sensor
• Orientation Sensor

But the Ambient Light sensor does not make the cut, meaning no Auto Brightness. There's 1.9GB internal storage available out of the box. Apps/games are movable to the External SD card, but don't get too excited about that, since game data still needs to reside in the internal memory meaning you can never install a game that's larger than 1.9GB. Benchmarks

Quadrant

The Galaxy S Duos 2 scored 3965 on Quadrant, coming in close to the Xperia M which scored 4217, while the quad-core XOLO Q800 also managed to get a score of 3651.

AnTuTu 4

AnTuTu score of the Galaxy S Duos 2 is 12111, which is higher than the Xperia M (11435) and the Galaxy Grand (8974).

AnTuTu is an additive score therefore it tells the story of the complete performance of the device, and seeing such scores from a dual-core device simply tells that the S7582 Galaxy S Duos 2 is definitely a phone to watch out for in this price segment.

Vellamo

The Galaxy S Duos scored 1524 on Vellamo HTML5 and 429 on Metal, the scores are consistent with other dual-core devices and higher than some of the MediaTek dual-core smartphones available at a lower price point. Both scores are higher than the Samsung Galaxy Grand as well as the Nexus 4.

NenaMark

NenaMark tests the graphics prowess of the device, and we got an exceptional score of 54.9 FPS on NenaMark2 for the Galaxy S Duos 2. 

Its higher than any other phone in its price category other than the Sony Xperia M which scored an impressive 64.4 FPS. Meaning even high-end games should be easily playable on the Galaxy S Duos 2.

Multitouch Test

The display supports 2 points of touch, therefore its a 2-point multitouch display. 

The touch response of the display on the S Duos 2 is almost instantaneous and smooth, however the glass covering the front of the smartphone gets smudged with finger prints very easily. I found myself, cleaning the display every few minutes during the review.

Linpack

The Galaxy S Duos 2 S7582 scored 45.14 MFlops on the Single Thread test and 73.39 MFlops on Multi Thread test, which is consistent with other dual-core smartphones.

Benchmark Comparison

Conclusion

Samsung has introduced a very competitive smartphone with the Galaxy S Duos 2 in a very overcrowded segment with Micromax, Karbonn and XOLO trying to gasp at every straw. But Indian manufacturers seems to loose out to Samsung in terms of marketing as well as build quality and after sales service. The Galaxy S Duos 2, atleast performance wise, trumps its competition and comes ever so close to the costlier Sony Xperia M.
