Samsung Galaxy Round with curved display now official
So we just saw leaked images of a curved display device from Samsung, now it has gone official as the Samsung Galaxy Round, making it the world's first smartphone with a curved display. At present though its been announced for Korea only where it will be available starting October 10.
The curved display on the Galaxy Round is 5.7-inches in size, Super Flexible AMOLED, with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. Rest of the specs include the 2.3 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 SoC with 3 GB RAM, 32 GB internal memory which is expandable using micro SD card. There's a 13 megapixels primary camera with LED flash and a 2.0 megapixels front facing camera as well.
The Galaxy Round is extremely petite at just 7.9 mm but a bit hefty at 154 grams. Although that can be attributed to the 2800 mAh battery pack. There's Android 4.3 running under the hood in Samsung's custom TouchWiz UX for better or worse. As with all Samsung smartphones there are a couple of neat software tricks to utilize the curved display, including GravityEffect which lets you interact with the display by tilting it and BounceUX which lets you control music playback by tapping on the display sides. You can see the GravityEffect in action below:
The Samsung Galaxy Round has been priced at 1,089,000 won or about $1,014 in Korea for the Luxury Brown color. At present there is no information on a global rollout.
