Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime (2016) will be company's first smartphone running on a MediaTek chipset
The Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime (2016) has just been cleared by the FCC and has also appeared on GeekBench, letting us a peek into what the phone is all about.
The entry-level smartphone SM-G532F makes a huge departure for the company with the use of MediaTek's MT6737T quad-core SoC which has 4 Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.4GHz and Mali-T720 GPU. Until now Samsung had been using dated Cortex-A7 based Spreadtrum chipsets in its budget offerings.
Just last week MediaTek had confirmed Samsung has a customer which adds credibility to the GeekBench listing.
Other specs include a 5-inch qHD (960x540 Pixels) display, 2GB RAM and Android 6.0 Marshmallow. There's also an 8MP rear camera here alongwith a 5MP front-facing camera for selfies. Given the specs of the Galaxy Grand Prime Plus (2016) should sit below the current Galaxy J series of smartphones but we will know more when it launches at the end of this year.
