Samsung Galaxy C9 to feature 6GB RAM, Snapdragon 652, 4000 mAh battery launching soon in China
Samsung has begun teasing a new metal smartphone in China, which could be the rumored Galaxy C9. The company has already launched two new smartphones under the C series in China, the Galaxy C5 and C7, which are their most affordable metal smartphones in the country.
But now Samsung is focusing on what it's calling the "The next big thing" which apparently is coming soon. We have already seen the Galaxy C9 make its way to benchmarking websites and it has now been certified by the FCC as well which confirmed that the phone will come with a massive 4000 mAh battery.
Coming to specs now, the Galaxy C9 is not going to be your run-of-the-mill mid-ranger, instead Samsung is packing a 6-inch 1080p display here probably of the Super AMOLED variety running on the Snapdragon 652 octa-core SoC with Adreno 510 GPU. Then there's 6GB RAM onboard, a first for the company with 64GB expandable storage which would be expandable with a SIM card slot.
Samsung has also understood people's penchant for selfies, and therefore the Galaxy C9 is expected to pack a 16MP front facing camera alongwith a 16MP rear camera. Similar to the other C series smartphones, the fingerprint sensor will be embedded in the home button and you get NFC for mobile payments. The C9 will be launched with Android Marshmallow out of the box and would possibly get an update to Nougat next year.
Other connectivity options should include dual-SIM 4G LTE support, dual-band WiFi ac, Bluetooth 4.2 and GPS. Samsung's 'C' series is the result of intense competition from Chinese manufacturers, including the likes of Oppo, Vivo and Xiaomi which have eaten away a huge chunk of Samsung's sale. Even in India, the company has launched a plethora of smartphones including the new J 2016 series, On Pro series, then the J Max, then J Prime series, a rebranded J7 2016 confusingly named Galaxy On8 and then the A9 Pro. The company is trying to go back to its strategy of throwing everything against the wall to see what sticks but still hasn't given a befitting reply to the likes of Xiaomi, LeEco, Lenovo and OnePlus in India.
Its time the company chalks out a proper strategy based on market demographics instead of trying to make its presence felt in every segment.
