Samsung is said to be developing 320MP and 440MP Camera Sensors

Samsung 320MP 440MP camera sensor leak.

Renowned for its array of smartphone camera sensors, Samsung is notably recognized for the remarkable 200MP camera integrated into the Galaxy S23 Ultra. Now, the Tech leaker Revegnus (@Tech_Reve) recently revealed on X (formerly known as Twitter) that Samsung is purportedly making significant strides in the advancement of four novel camera sensors.

    This lineup encompasses a 440MP HU1 sensor, an undisclosed 320MP sensor, a 200MP HP7 sensor equipped with 0.7-micron pixels, and a 50MP ISOCELL GN6 sensor incorporating 1.6-micron pixels.

440MP Sensor - While its purpose in smartphones remains uncertain, there's a possibility that this sensor is being designed for non-smartphone applications, such as the automotive or industrial sectors. Samsung's aspiration, declared in 2020, to introduce camera sensors with resolutions equivalent to human-eye vision (ranging from 500MP to 600MP) lends significance to the development of the 440MP sensor, marking a notable step toward achieving this objective.

320MP Sensor - The leaker indicates that the Galaxy S26 Ultra could potentially feature this sensor. These 320MP sensors are compatible with MediaTek's Dimensity 9200 chipset, hinting at their potential role as the next evolution after 200MP camera technology.

200MP HP7 Sensor - Following in the footsteps of the Galaxy S23 Ultra's 200MP HP2 sensor, the rumored HP7 sensor holds promise. Expected to incorporate slightly larger pixels for improved image quality, it's worth noting that this sensor might not make its way into a Samsung phone due to its higher production cost.

50MP ISOCELL GN6 Sensor - This sensor might serve as Samsung's entry into the realm of one-inch camera sensors, sharing a pixel size similarity with Sony's IMX989 sensor. Notably, the one-inch sensor size is coveted for enhancing camera phone capabilities. However, the leaker speculates that it might be Chinese manufacturers, rather than Samsung, who embrace this sensor technology.

The forthcoming release of the ISOCELL GN6 sensor is generating anticipation, potentially introducing smartphone brands to an alternative to Sony's exclusive hold on one-inch sensor technology. A broader range of choices could result in cost savings and a heightened level of innovation within the realm of smartphone camera capabilities.

Although the launch of the Galaxy S24 series is still several months away, preliminary speculations have started to circulate. Initial signals point towards a modest enhancement for the Galaxy S24 Ultra, focusing on refinements to the 10x zoom sensor and incorporating a new 50MP telephoto camera.
