Qualcomm's new mid-range chip, Snapdragon 653 leaks with Cortex-A73 Cores
Qualcomm is supposedly working on a new mid-range chip as the successor of the powerful Snapdragon 652. The new chipset, dubbed the Snapdragon 653 would be an octa-core SoC with four powerful Cortex-A73 cores clocked at 2.0GHz and four power efficient Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.4GHz in a big.LITTLE configuration.
Graphics are said to get a boost as well with a 550 MHz Adreno 515 GPU. The model number is expected to be MSM8976 Pro but it would be built on the older 28nm process, instead of 14nm employed for the Snapdragon 625.
Other specs and features of the Snapdragon 653 SoC include support for up to 1333 MHz LPDDR4 memory, LTE Cat 9, dual-band WiFi 802.11 ac, Bluetooth 4.1, eMMC 5.1 storage and cameras upto 24 megapixels with dual ISP. All in all, it would be a higher clocked chip than SD652 and provide wider LTE coverage and the major difference here would be the more powerful / efficient Cortex-A73 cores.
The authenticity of the leak is a bit questionable, and we really can't confirm much before either the chip begins testing or Qualcomm announces its production.
