OnePlus Open 2 detailed Specs and Images Surfaced Online; Expected 8-inch 2K 120Hz LTPO Inner display
OnePlus is gearing up to launch the OnePlus Open 2, the successor to its first foldable phone, the OnePlus Open. Early renders have revealed key details about its design and features, with a report from Smartprix highlighting several notable upgrades.
Design and Build -
The OnePlus Open 2 retains the signature design of its predecessor, featuring a prominent circular rear camera module. However, the internal camera layout has been revamped, now showcasing three rear sensors positioned in the top half of the circle, with Hasselblad branding at the bottom. Another significant change is the curved rear edges, replacing the flatter design of the original Open.
When unfolded, the Open 2 resembles the original but is larger and thinner. With a folded thickness of under 10mm, it could become one of the slimmest foldable phones available. The report notes that since these renders are based on a late-stage production prototype, the final design may vary slightly.
Display and Performance -
The OnePlus Open 2 will feature an upgraded 8-inch 2K LTPO main display with a 120Hz refresh rate, compared to the 7.82-inch panel on its predecessor. The outer display will also increase slightly in size, measuring 6.4 inches versus the previous 6.31 inches.
Under the hood, the device will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC, paired with 16GB of RAM and up to 1TB of internal storage, with possible additional configurations. The camera system will include a triple 50MP setup on the rear, while the front-facing cameras are expected to remain similar, offering 32MP and 20MP sensors.
Upgrades and Features -
The OnePlus Open 2 brings several notable enhancements, starting with an improved IPX8 water resistance rating, a significant upgrade from the IPX4 rating of its predecessor. The battery capacity also sees a boost, increasing from 4,800mAh to 5,900mAh.
Charging capabilities receive a major upgrade as well, with the addition of 50W wireless charging—marking a first for the series—and 80W wired charging, up from the original's 67W. The device will run on OxygenOS 15, based on Android 15.
Launch Timeline -
The OnePlus Open 2 is anticipated to debut in China in early 2025, followed by a global release later in the first quarter of the year. It is expected to be available in at least two color options, including a classic black variant.
